Artist's Comments

This started out as an experiment I wasn't really expecting much out of, but I ended up liking it enough to post it here.

I used a vintage photograph as reference for the pose, and as it's mainly an experiment with technique there isn't much more behind this image. However, I find she closely resembles an idea I had in mind for a painting I want to do of the Slavic goddess of spring, Vesna (using my good friend Vesna as model, of course ;)).

My paternal grandfather is Serbian and I've taken part in his customs and traditions growing up. It's a part of my heritage I'm interested in exploring further through my art.

Watercolour and various inks (white, mostly... still in love with that) on watercolour paper. 19x15 inches.

The combination of watercolor and ink really give From The Earth by ~Kaelycea a gritty and whimsical look. The grittiness of the piece still adds to the spring like feel, and is a wonderful representation of stolen spring moments. (Featured by ^oilsoaked)

I don't care what your tutors say about your white ink dependancy, it works beautifully!

That's absolutely beautiful. Have you seen an artist called Poppy Palin? Check her out, you might like her stuff :)

Ooooh, it is beautiful, I love it. It reminds me of Brian Froud's "Faerie Godmother" piece.

I love those skeletal leaves, there is a lovely sense of old making way for the new. A very beautiful image.
